Both LifeFitness and especially Precor need to refine their product offerings in this price range to catch up with what True is offering. The space saving design and quality of construction has pushed True ahead.

The ergonomics of this machine is a real bright point. Having a range of motion this natural is usually reserved for $4,000 and up models, with a few exceptions. The adjustability, however, is noticeably lacking. The stride length is fixed at 21". Perhaps they decided the multiple grip position on the handlebars would suffice, but we can't say that we agree. In this price range, there should really be more options to fit users of varying sizes.

As far as projected reliability is concerned, this elliptical is great. There are very few models that we expect to last as long as this one. The ones with a comparable life expectancy usually cost an extra $1,000. Similarly, the quality of parts is greater than what you find in most models, and it's unheard of in at this price.

The noise level is above average, which isn't easy to find in any price range. It's not something that's great enough to make you decided to buy this machine on its own, but it does give you an idea of how much more attention to detail True used than most companies are willing to.

The warranty is okay. Labor is covered for 1 year, parts are covered for 5 years, and the frame is covered for life. It's a pretty standard warranty. Still, we would have liked to see a bit more coverage. The True M 50 seems like it will hold up to the stresses of exercise really well, and we think a better warranty would have shown that True really believes in this model.
