Brief Overview
The classic Star Trac design being directly marketed to the home. Although you get the few extra features over the standard S-TR model, you will be much happier if you put up the extra for the S-TRc model with the AC drive system for $500 more. It will be the best $500 extra you have ever spent!
Overall Quality
Since you can get a S-TRc for $500 more, we would pony up the extra. Star Trac makes a wonderful commercial machine and they are now targeting the consumer market. It is interesting how many of the home companies are now charging what Star Trac charges so we guess Star Trac said 'what the heck!?' For instance, you can buy a True home treadmill for over $8,000. Landice has a $5,000 plus machine. Lifefitness has a model close to $9,000 (although it really is a dressed up commercial model).
