The CE 5.5 is a decent elliptical that is good enough for our 1st runner up award for our 2014 best buys.
Smooth CE 5.5 Review The Smooth CE 5.5 is a decent compact elliptical produced by Smooth Fitness and is our Best Buy 2014 1st Runner Up in the $1499 category. What makes the CE 5.5 our 1st Runner Up Comes with a 4-way adjustable stride length From 18" to 21", the CE 5.5 might offer the most variety of stride lengths we have reviewed so far. Most models around this price range only offers 3 adjustable stride lengths at max. In the case of CE 5.5, even though it doesn't reach the 22" stride length, it does offer adjustment lengths for those who belong in the 19" and 21" range that are often skipped in most adjustable models. Has 24 intensity levels Falling a little behind the ACT Commercial 10, the CE 5.5 also offers decent 24 intensity levels to back up the 4-way adjustable stride length feature. Most models around this price range only offer 20 intensity levels. Number of workout programs 26 workout programs in a trainer is already a decent number considering its price. Normally trainers priced from $1000-$1500, only offer 16 preset programs. But one thing we are really curious about is how did the NordicTrack ACT Commercial 10 managed to arm up a surprising 38 workout programs at $1499 tag. This makes the 26 workout programs of the CE 5.5 somewhat short. Rock-solid warranty coverage along with a 60-day money back guarantee What we really like about this trainer is the generous warranty coverage it offers. The lifetime warranty on its frame is expected. It also offers 5 years warranty on parts and 2 years for labor. This is really good warranty coverage for a trainer. The 5-year warranty on its parts only shows that Smooth Fitness is confident on the quality of the parts they use for the CE 5.5. What amazes us more is the 60-day money back guarantee provided by the manufacturer. Normally manufacturers would only give 30 days. We've never seen any trainer with this long of a money back guarantee before. Keep in mind that to return one of these is a Herculean task. The disappointment No incline ramp Trainers at this price range are expected to have a manual incline feature at a minimum. Users who love inclines on their workout will miss it in this trainer. If you really want it badly and if it's your priority, then the CE 5.5 will disappoint you. Our say: The Smooth CE 5.5 is a good trainer in this price range. If you compare the NordicTrack A.C.T. Commercial 10 to the CE 5.5, there is a gap. But, if you are not a fan of a center-driven design which the ACT Commercial 10 has, the CE 5.5 should be a perfect choice for you in this price range.
