The Star Trac S-CTx is the light commercial intro model for Star Trac's elliptical lineup. It's a decent machine but a poor value at $4K. We would recommend that you look at product offerings from Precor, True and Lifefitness in this price range.
Star Trac only really produces commercial ellipticals and then attempts to sell them to your home. These are high-quality units with great warranties. The only real problem is that the feel and motion on their machines don't really compare well to their competitors like Cybex, Precor, and LifeFitness. If you love a Star Trac machine that you use at your local gym, then, by all means, buy one. Just understand at the prices they sell them for you aren't getting a great value.
The good news for me is that I can't recommend any of the ellipticals that Star Trac is offering on a value basis. They are not good values for features to-quality-to-price you are going to get and pay for. They are, however, very good quality machines so at least you don't have to worry about them falling apart after you buy them.
