Based on the quality components and overall build, we do predict the Smart Strider 895 CSE lasting at least a few years. We are glad to see an affordable rear-drive elliptical. Unlike front drives, the rear-drive ellipticals tend to be a little quieter, have a better ellipse movement, a more natural feel, and have fewer moving parts. The fewer moving components usually mean you have less to break/take care of. So, we could see the Smart Strider 895 CSE suiting a moderate user on a budget who works out three to four times a week.
Proform has not introduced a new model that would knock the Proform Smart Strider 895 CSE out of the running. But, that also means they haven’t made any major upgrades in a while. We know that it is hard to find an elliptical that offers such a good build at a lower price, though, and do like the quality that you receive with this model. Taking all of this into account, we have awarded the Proform Smart Strider 895 CSE our Third Place 2021 Best Buy Prize for the $1,500 to $1,999 range.
Many of us love a good Starbucks coffee especially during the holidays – hard to beat a good peppermint mocha! But, we’ve known our whole lives that the best part of waking up is Folgers in your cup. Other than getting the jingle stuck in your head, the differences in our coffee preferences are similar to the Proform Smart Strider 895 CSE and other ellipticals out there. Sure, there are a few new flavors these days but at the end of the day, a Folger cup of copy is a more affordable but decent cup of joe. Similarly, the Smart Strider 895 CSE hasn’t had much improvement over the years but it is still a good elliptical particularly when you consider the price tag. Proform does include thirty-two preprogrammed workouts and twenty-four resistance levels that offer average value. They also include a decent build, though, which means that you get an average amount of built-in features and a well-built machine. So you could either have an elliptical with either a good build or a ton of features but why not have an average amount of both?
Then we have the features that we are not thrilled about. Among the items, Proform has not updated is the warranty and it wasn’t good, to begin with. Proform has their standard ten-year frame, two-year parts, and one-year labor warranty that is pretty sad when compared to other ellipticals in this price range. Not to mention the fact that Proform is notorious for poor customer service and some machines that don’t seem to work at all. We also really don’t like the iFit technology. Proform includes one year free but when that year is up, you are left paying nearly $500 a year in order to maintain the value in your Smart Strider 895 CSE’s console.

In our past reviews, we have commended the Smart Strider 895 CSE and have even said that it is one of the best ellipticals you can find for $999 providing both decent quality and excellent features on a proven design platform. We have been disappointed with the warranty but have found the design and price to be a good trade.
We are glad to know that people can still find an elliptical with a lot of features and quality build all for a good price. With that said, Proform has been offering this same elliptical for quite some time now and have not taken the time to add any major updates. Regardless, we have presented the Proform Smart Strider 895 CSE our Third Place 2021 Best Buy Award for the $1,500 to $1,999 range.
