Brief Overview

The additional $400 you pay for the heart rate feature is simply not worth the money. We would stick with the xR6.

Overall Quality

Octane makes the only quality recumbent elliptical on the market today. For people that want a recumbent elliptical this is a high quality choice that is actually a reasonable value. The Octane xR6 ce is a decent recumbent elliptical. At $3,899, it costs $600 more than the xR6, while offering little extra aside from a heart rate feature. Needless to say, this is not worth the extra money, but if there weren't a cheaper version to buy instead, we'd think this was a good value. Ergonomically speaking, this model is wonderful. It's very hard to find an elliptical that offers a more natural range of motion, but some of those that do can be bought at a much more reasonable price than this one. The feel of this machine is even more impressive considering the fact that it's a recumbent elliptical. The adjustability is unimpressive. You have 20 options for seat height, as well as 5 options for seat tilt, so you can ensure comfort with your particular body type. 20 levels of resistance allow you to align your workout with your fitness levels. You can find some ellipticals that sell for less than $1,000 that offer greater adjustability. As far as projected reliability is concerned, this model is fantastic. Very few models have a longer life expectancy, and the ones that do will generally cost you over $6,000. The quality of parts is good, even for such an expensive machine. The noise levels of this machine are average. This is common among all ellipticals regardless of price. If quietness during operation is a major concern for you, you can find models in this price range that are better, but we don't expect the average user to be bothered by the amount of noise this elliptical makes. The warranty on the Octane xR6 ce isn't very good. Labor is covered for 1 year, parts are covered for 5 years, and the frame is covered for life. You can usually expect better coverage on ellipticals that are much cheaper.
