Overall Rating: 6.47

1st Runner Up to Smooth 5.65 ($999) in the Best Buy Awards $700 to $999 category.

What can be said in favor of the treadmill...

Powerful and relatively noise free 3 HP motor that enables a smoother drive

At the $1,000 price point it's a bonus to have a large frame 3 HP motor powering a 20" x 60" tread belt, and it gives you sufficient ammo for a punishing run. Consider you're getting more value for your buck as there are competitors pushing the same motor at higher prices.

The normal runner can reach 12 mph without creating much of a racket and inclines max at 15%.

20" x 60" Walking area is smooth and stable

With a powerful 3 HP backup, the 20" x 60" tread belt welcomes the methodical exerciser and the professional runner. The running surface tolerates even bigger users providing a smoother, stable running ambiance.

"FlexSelect" cushioning is just right for the regular runner

The "FlexSelect" cushioning system presents the correct softness/ hardness options for the regular runner and methodical exerciser, and there's enough knee and hip joint protection to avert injuries. If you want superior cushioning be prepared to shell out more cash.

Where it falters...

Not quite the machine for serious professionals

Notwithstanding the quality of the machine components, it must be emphasized that the company has cut corners and trimmed the edges to hammer prices down to $999. For the normal walker this scaled down version of high end models may feel OK, but serious athletes may prefer investing in bigger treadmills at the $1,500 price point or more.

Warranty is not up to the mark but is average for the price point

NordicTrack C970 Pro provides warranty of 1 year labor, three years parts and lifetime on the motor and frame. After investing solidly in perking up the quality of its components, the least the company can do is to beef up the warranty. This warranty would be OK if the service delivery is exceptional, which is not the case, so we rate this as average.

Our Verdict

The NordicTrack C970 Pro is the 1st Runner Up to Smooth 5.65 ($999) in the Best Buy Awards $700 to $999 category.

It is value for money if you happen to be budget conscious and looking in the $1,000 price category. Serious runners will get a bigger bang for their buck at the $1,500 price point and upwards.

Good machine for the money but if you are a serious user, pay extra to move up in the NordicTrack lineup.
