Gold's Gym 480 Treadmill Review

treadmill Doctor Note :

Not a bad effort for $500. This is purely a walker's machine and it certainly is a beautiful package. Won't be one that will last forever though.

Hardly any points favoring this treadmill...

Low powered motor useful for walking only

The small frame 2.5 HP motor is one of the weakest on the treadmill circuit. The motor and drive combination is not designed for running. Though the manufacturer claims users can attain speeds of 10 mph, this will only invite early breakdowns and numerous service calls. A measly five year warranty does not inspire confidence.

Walking area is way below the standard size

An 18" x 50" tread area is not fit for running and larger and taller users will have problems staying on course while exercising. The walking area deviates from the standard size that we get to see in larger, better treadmills. If you are a regular at the gym and you happen on this treadmill you will feel instantly feel cramped for space and sluggish.

Air Stride cushioning is tolerable only for its price

In the sub $1,000 category you can't expect the world's best cushioning, but at the $500 price point this is not a bad deal, giving just enough support for back and limbs to power a comfortable walk.

Warranty; it can't get worse than this

A warranty period of 90 days on parts and labor and 5 years on the motor is not confidence inspiring. If you overuse this machine, don't maintain it carefully or run up speeds topping 10 mph, you can expect a faster wearing out of parts and early service calls. Longevity? This machine doesn't know what that word means.

Servicing is problematic

The worst thing about Gold's Gym is Icon's poor track record of customer service. There will be frequent breakdowns, and service response and parts replacements will likely be slow and sluggish.

The final diagnosis

The Gold's Gym 480 Looks good on the outside, but then that's Icon's design charm working on you. There is very little quality, power or performance beneath the glitter. Ultimately, what you are getting is a shadow of a treadmill that is nothing but junk at a low end price tag.

The last hurrah: When you consider what it costs to put a treadmill together, it is nearly impossible to make a decent machine for $500 but Gold's Gym makes a good effort.
