SportsArt E 822 Elliptical Review

Brief Overview

The E822 used to be a valued competitor against Lifefitness, now it's just overpriced. The SportsArt E822 is a small step above the E83 but the price increase seems worth it... the overall price, however, is just too high. Fortunately for SportsArt, they have continued to innovate while companies like LifeFitness have fallen short this year both on the product and their pricing. If you are looking for an alternative to LifeFitness for a little less money you may want to consider this machine.

Overall Quality

Since LifeFitness started selling through Costco buying a SportsArt machine makes no sense whatsoever. It is a high-quality machine, they just want too much money for it.

The SportsArt E822 is a quality treadmill, but it's not worth the $3,299 it asks for. If you can get a decent discount, it's worth considering. It has impressive durability and a good warranty to match it. At this point, you'd be better off with a model from LifeFitness.

Ergonomically speaking, this machine isn't bad, but you can certainly find cheaper ellipticals that offer a more natural range of motion. The adjustability is great. A manually adjustable stride lets you choose between a stride length of 18-25.5". This gives you a nice range to find what works with your body type. There are also 20 levels of resistance that allow you to align your workout with your fitness levels. Very few of the ellipticals that we reviewed have more options for adjustments.

The E822 provides the user with a solid drive system, decent electronics, and very good adjustability. One problem is that the major connecting bolts have a tendency to back out during use so make sure you use lock washers or locktite during assembly.

As far as projected reliability is concerned, this model isn't bad. That being said, you can pay $1,000 less for an elliptical that has a longer life expectancy. The quality of parts used is also nice but unimpressive in this price range.

The noise levels of this machine are below average. Most elliptical make about the same amount of noise regardless of price, but this is one of the few models that is slightly quieter than normal. If quietness during operation is a major concern for you, only two other ellipticals that we reviewed make less noise, and they cost a couple hundred dollars extra.

The warranty on the SportsArt E822 is great. Labor is covered for 1 year, electronics are covered 5 years, parts are covered for 10 years, and the frame is covered for life. Not many manufacturers are willing to provide a better warranty than this.
