If you need a cheap unit at a bargain price, this one is it but only will last if you are a walker and baby it.

The Proform Performance 400 C is the cross-trainer version of the Performance 400. The motor is significantly weaker and it's slightly worse in almost every other category in the 400 C, as compared to the 400, but they both cost $599.

The walking area is a good size. The belt measures in at 20" x 55". This is a good 5" shorter than the standard 20" x 60" walking belt, but it's still large enough for individuals with long strides to feel comfortable using this treadmill.

Inside the machine, you'll find a weak motor. It has similar power producing capabilities as many of the other models that sell this low. As mentioned before, you can get a much better motor from the Performance 400, which costs the same as this one. You can reach speeds of up to 10 mph with this treadmill, but you'll damage the structure and drive system if you use it for running.

One of the worst cushioning systems available can be found on this machine. ProShox Cushioning is used to reduce the impact that walking has on your joints and back. A couple hundred extra dollars can get you a running surface that will be significantly more forgiving or won't wear out as quickly.

The projected reliability of this treadmill is poor, which is to be expected at this price. You really have to be careful on this model if you want it to have a decent life expectancy. Even then, there's no guarantee. The quality of parts used is disappointing.

The warranty on the Proform Performance 400 C is awful. Parts and labor are covered for 1 year, the motor is covered for 25 years, and the frame is covered for life. This is the kind of coverage a manufacturer offers when they don't have faith in their product.
