You simply cannot get a high quality unit for $600. We would save the money and get a higher-end treadmill or get a gym membership.

The Proform 505 CST is an inexpensive treadmill. It sells for $599, and it delivers the kind of value you'd expect to see at that price, which isn't a good thing. Quality treadmills are an investment. We recommend staying away from models that sell for this little.

The walking area is a good size. The belt measures in at 20" x 55". This is 5" shorter than your standard 20" x 60" walking belt, but you can find several treadmills costing over $1,000 more than this model that offer a less accommodating walking area.

The motor is weak, but that's common in this price range. If you are willing to spend more than $1,000, you'll see a major jump in power producing capabilities. In theory, you can reach speeds of up to 10 mph with this machine, but we wouldn't suggest that. The structure and drive system won't hold up well if you try to run. This treadmill shouldn't be used for anything other than light walking.

The cushioning system on this model is okay. ProShox Lite 3 Cushioning is used to reduce the impact that walking has on your joints and back. When looking at treadmills that are this cheap, you're not likely to find a more forgiving running surface than this one.

The projected reliability is bad for this treadmill. There aren't many models that have a shorter life expectancy than this one. A couple hundred extra dollars will get you in a range where you can find a machine that we expect to last significantly longer. The quality of parts used is equally disappointing.

The warranty on the Proform 505 CST is pathetic. Parts and labor are covered for 1 year, the motor is covered for 25 years, and the frame is covered for life. This type of coverage is to be expected in this price range.
