NordicTrack C 900i Treadmill Review
treadmill Doctor Note :
High value with low price. It is hard to beat that combination but unfortunately it is paired with this factory's infamous customer service.
These products are produced by Icon Health and Fitness. They are the largest retail fitness company. This well-known brand name relies heavily on features and their newer units are holding up quite well in the home treadmill market if you ignore the glitches in electronics. The treadmills are beautifully packaged machines and look great in your home. NordicTrack has acquired a formidable reputation for producing high quality machines at bargain prices and they are outselling the competition in various price points.
Icon became a mass-marketing giant mainly because of the cheaper price tags they stuck on quality machines. These days their emphasis has shifted to packing their machines with features matched to good designs. Unfortunately Icon has the poorest customer service record in the business and we rate the machines by the individual machine quality, not the quality of their service.
Although you get a value price for your product, you also get scaled down service so keep this in mind when buying their machines- apparently they price their machines so low in comparison to other companies that they don't have money left for service. Due to the sheer number of units they produce, we pick up support in many cases where this factory leaves off.
What can be said in favor of the TM...
3 HP motor-and-drive combination powers a smooth workout
It has a good large frame motor delivering a smooth performance with tolerable noise reduction at 12 mph speeds. It is good for longer duration workouts. You may see the same capacity motor operating even in higher price levels so it's good value for money at the $1,000 price point. The superior walking belt and inclines that max at 15% offer adequate support to a varied and challenging workout.
This is a superb walking surface
The 20" x 60" belt size is adequately supported by the 3 HP motor that gels effectively with the drive system. This belt guarantees a smoother, more stable workout for even taller and bigger users. The belt gives a stronger grip to striking feet and the motion will be comfortable creating a natural running rhythm. Definitely one of the better running surfaces at the $1,000 price point.
Easy to fold up and store
This is a sturdy treadmill that folds vertically for more compact storage, freeing up valuable space in small homes and smaller apartments. Keep in mind though that even when folded, it is not a small machine.
Where some improvements could do wonders...
For professional runners, the $1,500 price point would be a better option
The quality of this model though unmistakable leaves room for improvement. Cost cutting measures have been put through to scale down this model to the $1,000 price point. To overcome this drawback a high end NordicTrack model preferably in the $1,500 and above range would be better suited to the power runner and extreme user.
Warranty "coverage" is average and aftersales service is poor
NordicTrack offers a lifetime warranty on frame and motor along with 3-years on parts and 1 year on labor which is average by industry standards, and in NordicTrack there is the added burden of a lack luster service dept. which dents the reliability of this company.
The NordicTrack C900i will undoubtedly please the normal user and the competent runner who chalks up a decent mile. But if a power runner chooses enduring performance over attractive looks, there are superior machines in the $1,500 range. For all other users it is value for money if they are hell bent not breaching the $1,000 mark.
Great combination of low price and strong core system parts make for an excellent choice. Hopefully you won't have to find out about their customer service.
