AFG 3.0 AE Elliptical Review
treadmill Doctor Note :
The 3.0 AE is an average elliptical in a crowded market.
At $799, I could never recommend this product from AFG. If you wanted to buy an AFG in this price range, then buy the 2.0 AE. Otherwise, look at product offerings from NordicTrack or Proform.
The AFG 3.0 AE really isn't worth the $799 that it asks for. You'd be better off with the 2.0 AE, which sells for $200 less, but even that one doesn't stack up great to its competition. In this price range, you're never going to get a great elliptical, so you really need to do you research to find the best model you can get. This model is certainly not the best you can get.
Ergonomically speaking, this model is pathetic. Even at this low of a price, it's very easy to find an elliptical with a more natural range of motion. The lack of adjustability is also sad. The stride length is fixed at 20". If that doesn't work with your body type, there's nothing you can do to fix it. You can, however, set the resistance levels between 1-20, which gives you a decent amount of options to make this model match your fitness levels.
As far as projected reliability is concerned, this machine isn't very good. You can find ellipticals selling for a couple hundred dollars less that have a longer life expectancy than this one does. The quality of parts used is also below what you would hope for when you pay $799 for an elliptical. Keep in mind that models in this price range already aren't expected to have particularly good quality or durability.
The noise levels of this model are below average. Most ellipticals make a comparable amount of noise during operation, but it's not uncommon for those that sell for less than $1,000 to be a bit noisier. Still, you can find cheap models that are quieter than this one.
The warranty on the AFG 3.0 AE is good. Labor is covered for 1 year, parts are covered for 3 years, and the brake and frame are covered for life. You're unlikely to find better coverage in this price range. Either AFG has more faith in this elliptical than we do, or they intend to use the warranty as a selling point.
