The EFX 5.37 in my opinion is the best traditional elliptial on the market today. Other brands compete with space saving designs or attempting to bring commerical units into the home, but for a combination of quality, durability and refinement the 5.37 is just great.
The Precor EFX 5.37 is one of the best ellipticals you can find, short of buying a commercial model. It stands tall in every category, which you would hope for in a model that costs $4,999. It was the 2nd runner up for our Best Buy award in the $4,000 and Up price range.
As far as ergonomics is concerned, you’re not going to find a better machine. This elliptical offers the most natural range of motion in today’s market. In fact, there are only three other machines that are comparable in this area, and two of them are also made by Precor. It’s also near the top of the pack in adjustability. These are important areas to consider, and Precor really came through with this machine.
Our projected reliability has this machine as one of the best you can find. There is no model that we expect to last longer than this one, and there are very few that we expect to even come close. The other high end Precor models are the only other models we expect to last as long as this one will. The quality of parts also makes this elliptical really stand out. Only Precor has shown itself to be willing to invest in these kinds of parts for their high end models.
The noise level is great, as well. It is significantly quieter than your average elliptical. If you are really concerned about how quiet your exercise equipment will be during operation, you should consider this model. There aren’t many models that make less noise.
The warranty is fantastic on the Precor EFX 5.37. Labor is covered for 1 year, parts and wear items are covered for 10 years, and the frame and welding is covered for life. You can’t get better coverage than this. This really shows Precor’s confidence level in this elliptical.

General Information
Precor was acquired from Illinois Tool Works by Amer Group PLC in the fall of 2002. Amer Group also owns other well known brands like Wilson Sporting Goods. Precor has manufactured high quality equipment since the early 1980's. Although Precor has lost some of their dealer base over the last few years, they have really stepped up in the commercial game, and that is where they are strong. A strong commercial company is always good to buy from for the home because they know how to make a quality product. This past year Precor has become very aggressive on their home pricing putting models that were nearly $2500 much nearer to the $1500 price point.
Quality / Philosophy
Their design philosophy is to make a high quality product and then put a fair price on it. There’s nothing wrong with making money, and Precor is definitely one of the companies in this business that knows how to do it. Consumers should consider a commercial Precor, if you are looking in the higher price ranges. We were expecting new models this fall but have been informed that you won’t see these until the Fall of 2013..
Outlook
Precor has literally made a boatload of money from their elliptical products and deservedly so. We would expect them to remain one of the leading companies in terms of strength in the fitness business. Finally, they have given up their premium pricing on the entry level machines, and they should sell thousands more treadmills and ellipticals due to this change..
