General Information: Nautilus has been a company in flux to put it mildly. Overall, the machines that they make are quite capable. You pay for the name but that is also the case with many other recognizable brand name companies in this business. However we would look elsewhere to see if they can get their act together. The commercial division has been widely publicized as being for sale.
Manufacturing Philosophy: Their design philosophy seems to be to make a good machine and put the money where it is important. They give their machines good to excellent core drive system parts depending upon the cost of the model.
Company Outlook: Nautilus has lasted longer than we expected and in their latest annual report, the company reported a net loss for the year of $90,588,000. That’s right, they lost over ninety MILLION dollars on sales of more than four hundred eleven million. We aren’t the sharpest knives in the drawer but even we can figure out that you won’t be able to do this for a long time and stay in business. We also understand that they want to get out of anything that doesn't have a direct relation to marketing without distributors or retailers and have their commercial business up for sale. The direct model can work well if they can get the product right. Nautilus has been in a freefall over the last two years but have beat many people’s predictions that they would collapse…that said, they have also been beaten by the market and competitors like a rented mule so we’ll see what the future holds for them.
